Morocco Seeks Automotive Partnership with Spain's Valencia Region

Morocco wants to forge fruitful partnerships with the automotive sector in Valencia, Spain.

"The Moroccan government wants to generate synergies with the automotive sector in Valencia," reports Valencia Plaza. This is a topic that the Moroccan executive and its host, the President of the Valencian Generalitat, Ximo Puig, discussed on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, as part of a "trade mission" of the Valencian community to Morocco.

According to the same source, Moulay Hafid El Alamy, Minister of Industry, Trade and Green Economy and Digital, would have made this proposal following the outburst of the French Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, against Morocco, which hosts Renault factories.

"There is a clear commitment in Morocco to the development of the automotive sector and they have mentioned the possibility that our component companies could benefit from their market," say sources close to the file. The Automotive Cluster of the Valencian Community (AVIA) will look into this proposal. AVIA hosts a large network of companies, suppliers to the automotive sector of the Valencian Community.

"By associating with (Morocco), we would like not to miss the train, by not letting these opportunities be seized by other countries like Poland or Bulgaria, and to help improve the Ford ecosystem and the competitiveness of the plant itself," we are informed.

"They have the automotive industry and we have the components [...]. The country (Morocco) is growing at a dizzying pace, so all sectors of the community have the capacity to have a presence here," said José Vicente Morata, President of the Valencia Chamber of Commerce.
