Morocco in search of an exploit in Gabon

The Atlas Lions will cross swords this Friday evening at 8pm, at the Franceville stadium, with the Gabonese Panthers for the 5th round of the 2025 CAN qualifiers.
A match apparently without stakes since the two nations have already secured their ticket for the final phase in Morocco. However, Walid Regragui, the national coach, does not intend to make this trip a mere stroll.
"I expect an open and offensive match, like the first leg," he said Thursday evening at the pre-match press conference. "The two teams are relieved of the pressure of qualification and will play to win."
While the main objective - qualification - has already been achieved, Regragui sees other interests in this match. "Every game is a new challenge, especially away in Africa," he insisted. The opportunity to "progress together", to "give playing time" and to "test new tactical options".
The coach also mentioned the need to "create automatisms" and to "allow new players to integrate into the group". A "review of the squad" is therefore to be expected, even if Regragui does not wish to "disrupt the team too much".
Regarding the physical condition of the players, the coach acknowledged "some concerns" without revealing the details. "We’ll wait for the last training session to take stock," he specified, leaving the final composition in doubt.
Beyond the sporting aspect, Regragui took the opportunity to salute "the friendship that binds the two peoples" and to congratulate Gabon on their qualification. "We are very happy to be here," he said, before acknowledging the "true offensive playing style" of the Panthers.
After this Gabonese confrontation, the Atlas Lions will find the Moroccan public next Monday at the Oujda Honor Stadium to face Lesotho.
