Morocco's Ruling Party Claims Credit for Royal Projects Ahead of Election

In search of a third term at the head of the government, the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) is appropriating royal projects such as the high-speed train (TGV) linking Tangier to Casablanca. Its objective is to convince voters to massively vote for it in the next elections scheduled for September 8.

Appropriating royal projects in order to convince voters in the next elections. This is the new finding of the PJD of Saâdeddine El Othmani, the outgoing Prime Minister. In this sense, a campaign called "What has changed in Morocco since 2011" has been launched on social networks. The Islamist party is highlighting through this campaign the projects carried out since its accession to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The only problem: it is appropriating royal achievements, notes Assabah. These are projects developed as part of strategic plans, particularly in the transport, infrastructure, agriculture, social protection and university hospital construction sectors. Among these projects is the high-speed train (TGV) linking Tangier to Casablanca. A project started in 2010, before the Islamists came to power. The PJD is also appropriating compulsory social coverage.
