Morocco Rules Out Ferry Link from Marina Smir to Spanish Ports, Citing Technical Limitations

The Moroccan Ministry of Transport and Logistics has stated that the port of Marina Smir (Fnideq) does not meet the technical standards to establish a direct maritime link with the Spanish ports of Algeciras and Malaga.
The port of Marina Smir (Fnideq), near Ceuta, does not have the technical characteristics to establish a direct maritime line with Algeciras and Malaga, the ministry specified in its response to the question asked on this subject by the parliamentarian Hamid Al Daraq, who argues that this port has all the "required characteristics to promote tourism and the economy".
In its response, to which El Faro de Ceuta had access, the Moroccan ministry added that this port "already significantly contributes to increasing the tourist attractiveness and investment in the northern region", but is still not able to receive and dock commercial vessels, despite the expansion work carried out in 2009.
However, it recalls that passenger and freight maritime links exist between the ports of Tanger-Méditerranée and Tanger-Médina and the European ports, including the Spanish ports. For his part, the parliamentarian insists on the need to establish a maritime line between Marina Smir (Fnideq) and the Spanish ports of Algeciras and Malaga in order to attract more tourists and investors to the region and to generally facilitate the transit of travelers.
