Morocco’s Royal Air Maroc Faces Financial Crisis as Government Weighs Rescue Options

Faced with the multiple debts of Royal Air Maroc (RAM), severely affected by the covid-19 crisis, the Moroccan state is called upon to react quickly to avoid disaster.
Will the Moroccan government respond in time to save the airline from the financial abyss it continues to sink into? Nearly a month after the decision of several countries to close their airspaces, including Morocco, the entire fleet of the national airline has remained grounded, reports maroc-hebdo.
In addition to the loss of 11 million passengers in 2020 and a sharp drop in revenue of around 17 billion dirhams, the company has had to force a large part of its staff into technical unemployment. Given these worrying figures, which indicate the almost inevitable bankruptcy of RAM, direct government support, through the implementation of a recovery plan, is now a matter of urgency.
For now, the Moroccan airline is trying to relaunch its partners, particularly the government, to benefit from this subsidy. On the government side, we are being asked to be patient, while waiting to settle the priorities of the moment.
Meanwhile, the French airline Air France, which has benefited from state subsidies, has announced on its website the resumption of flight bookings to Morocco and other Maghreb countries.
