Morocco Road Safety Crisis: 15 Dead, Over 1,800 Injured in Week-Long Traffic Accident Surge

15 people died and 1,836 others were injured, including 61 seriously, in 1,404 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week of December 2 to 8.
The causes of these human tragedies include non-compliance with priority, driver and pedestrian inattention, speeding, non-compliance with safety distance, changing direction without using a signal, loss of control, non-compliance with stop signs, unauthorized lane changes, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving in the wrong direction, non-compliance with traffic lights, driving in the left lane, and improper overtaking, the DGSN said in a statement.
As for control operations and the repression of offenses, the security services recorded 38,033 violations and drew up 9,938 reports. These were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 28,095 transactional fines were collected.
The amounts collected reached 5,612,050 dirhams, the DGSN recalls. In addition, 3,602 vehicles were impounded, not to mention the seizure of 6,196 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 140 vehicles, it is specified.
