Morocco Road Fatalities Surge: 22 Dead, Nearly 2,000 Injured in One Week

The traffic accidents that occurred in the urban area during the week of July 29 to August 4, 2019 resulted in 22 deaths and 1,987 injuries.
Traffic accidents are multiplying. In total, 22 deaths and 1,987 injuries were recorded during the past week, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The causes of the accidents are multifaceted. According to the DGSN, they are respectively due to failure to yield the right of way, inattention of drivers and pedestrians, speeding, changing direction without using a signal, failure to maintain a safe distance, loss of control, unauthorized lane change, failure to stop, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving in the left lane, failure to comply with traffic lights, driving in the wrong direction and defective overtaking.
What about control and repression operations? The security services recorded 42,721 tickets and drew up 9,321 reports. All of this was submitted to the Attorney General’s Office. No less than 33,400 transactional fines were also collected.
In addition, the impounding of 4,353 vehicles, the seizure of 4,780 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 188 vehicles generated 6,703,200 dirhams.
