Morocco Road Crisis: 200 Accidents and 15 Deaths in Two-Day Traffic Surge

From July 26 to 27, traffic was hellish on Moroccan roads. 200 accidents occurred during these two days, according to the Ministry of Equipment and Transport.
At the heart of this chaos recorded on Moroccan roads, the decision to suspend travel that only gave residents of the cities concerned a few hours. As a result, the haste, the fear of being stuck, prompted many people to take to the road, causing several traffic accidents.
15 people were killed in these 200 road accidents. On Sunday, July 26 alone, 96 accidents occurred on Moroccan roads, with 9 deaths, 19 serious injuries and 146 minor injuries. As for Monday, 6 deaths, 7 serious injuries and 141 minor injuries were recorded.
The decision to close the entrances and exits of eight cities comes a few days before the celebration of Eid Al-Adha, scheduled for July 31. The cities of Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Meknes, Casablanca, Berrechid, Settat and Marrakech are affected due to cases of Covid-19 contamination in several prefectures and provinces of the Kingdom.
