Morocco to Review Controversial Pesticide Chlorpyrifos in July Meeting

Pesticides based on "Chlorpyriphos" could be withdrawn from the Moroccan market. The National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) will rule, at its meeting next July, on the future of this substance at the national level.
The marketing authorizations for Moroccan agricultural pesticides containing "Chlorpyriphos" will be re-examined by the national commission on agricultural pesticides. This re-examination will take place in July, during the commission’s meeting.
In a press release, ONSSA stated that the re-examination is justified by the ban on the product by the European Union and, above all, by the new scientific data. "ONSSA has informed the companies holding the authorizations of this, in accordance with the regulations and procedures in force," the press release states.
In Morocco, the re-examination of "Chlorpyriphos" will lead either "to the definitive withdrawal of the authorization of pesticides containing this substance, or to the restriction to very limited and regulated uses". ONSSA recalls that as part of the strengthening of the food safety of food products, it will regularly re-examine the active substances used in the composition of pesticides.
