Morocco Revamps Compulsory Military Service Law, Linking It to Civil Service Jobs

Just before the final vote scheduled for December 26, compulsory military service has undergone numerous changes by the parliamentary majority.

Thus, in order to access certain positions in the civil service, the deputies have made it conditional on the completion of military service, reports the website Telquel, which specifies that a certificate certifying their time under the flag will be provided to all conscripts.

It is also planned that all conscripts will obtain a certificate for the training carried out during the 12 months of military service, the same source informs, according to which the discipline and assiduity of the young person will be mentioned.

Furthermore, people who have acquired Moroccan nationality will have to wait at least 5 years before being trained by the army, and it is envisaged to deprive of military service all persons dismissed from the civil service.

A few days ago, the Delegate Minister in charge of the Administration of National Defense, Abdellatif Loudiyi, had revealed that young Moroccans residing abroad as well as women were no longer required to perform their military service.
