Morocco to Revamp Hotel Classification System with Mystery Shoppers

The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy is committed to overhauling its hotel and tourist accommodation classification system.
Fatima Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, expressed the ambition of her department to review the process of tourist classification of hotels. This process will now be based on the report of a site visit by a regional commission, whose role will be further strengthened by the control of a mystery customer. The latter will have to monitor the quality of tourist services in classified hotels.
To carry out this project, the Ministry of Tourism is relying on the collaboration of the Ministry of the Interior. Together, they are working on the development of the necessary decree projects to strengthen the legal framework of tourism professions. These measures will allow the national tourism offer to comply with international standards, Ammor assured.
Responding to a question asked by the group of the Moroccan Union of Labor (UMT) within the Chamber of Advisors during the oral question session on Tuesday, concerning the measures taken to improve tourist services, the minister said that her department has accelerated the publication of the implementing texts of law 80-14 relating to tourist establishments and other forms of tourist accommodation.
It should be noted that the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has accompanied the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism in the development of these new measures.
