Morocco Reports 80% Drop in Traffic Accidents During COVID-19 Lockdown

Since the state of emergency came into force, the number of traffic accidents in the urban area has dropped sharply. This is what the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicates.
The DGSN reports 942 traffic accidents that were recorded between March 20 and April 12, compared to 4,616 during the same period in 2019, a decrease of 79.59%, notes the MAP, which points out that the number of people killed in these accidents also recorded a significant drop of 65.52%. From 58 deaths during the same period in 2019, the toll has dropped to 20 deaths between March 20 and April 12, 2020.
As for the number of seriously injured people in these accidents, it fell by 79.12%, from 249 in 2019 to 52 in 2020, according to the DGSN. According to the same source, an 81.05% drop was also observed in the number of minor injuries, which went from 5,959 in 2019 to 1,129 in 2020.
