Morocco Repatriates 310 Citizens, Including Infants, from Spain Amid COVID-19 Precautions

Three Royal Air Maroc flights repatriated on Wednesday 310 Moroccans, including 10 babies, stranded in southern Spain. Those who benefit from this humanitarian operation are people in precarious health, elderly or who no longer have means of subsistence.

Once arrived in Tetouan, these citizens were confined and subjected to COVID-19 screening tests, while receiving medical support. This operation was carried out in full compliance with precautionary measures, the authorities say. In the event of detection of positive cases of the virus among these nationals, they will be taken care of by the health authorities.

Starting next Monday, 300 other Moroccans stranded in northwestern Spain will be repatriated from Barcelona. 300 other people in precarious situations blocked in Madrid will also be concerned. In total, more than 900 people will be repatriated. The pace of repatriation operations that will soon have to concern other regions and countries will be accelerated, adds the same source. All these operations will follow the same health protocol, in order to ensure that the repatriated citizens will not pose a danger to themselves, their families and their neighbors, it is specified.

These operations will take place according to the overall strategy put in place by Morocco, following the speech of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, before the House of Councillors.
