Morocco Reopens Tourist Visa Route for Taiwanese, but Taiwan Still Blocks Moroccan Applications

Because Morocco has no diplomatic representation in Taiwan, Taiwanese travelers must submit their applications to the Moroccan Embassy in Japan. Since September 21, it has once again been accepting the confirmation letters required for tourist stays. The information was confirmed to Taiwan’s representative in Tokyo on September 25, reports Taipei Times.

The decision eases the restrictions imposed on July 23, when the Moroccan Embassy suspended the issuance of these letters to Taiwanese travelers. Taipei responded a week later by stopping its acceptance of visa applications from Moroccan nationals.

The Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs had cited the principle of reciprocity. Since July 30, only Moroccan applications with special authorization can be considered.

Reopening limited to tourists

Morocco’s reopening currently applies only to tourism. Taiwanese applications for business travel, among other purposes, remain suspended.

Taipei is therefore refusing to lift its own measure. The Taiwanese ministry is waiting for Morocco to restore all categories of confirmation letters before it resumes normal processing of applications from Moroccans.

Taiwanese travelers cannot use Morocco’s electronic visa. They must obtain their confirmation letter from the Moroccan Embassy in Japan before continuing with their visa application.

A Taiwanese tourist can now resume the process of traveling to Morocco. A Moroccan national wishing to travel to Taiwan remains subject to the restrictions imposed on July 30, unless granted exceptional authorization.
