Morocco Reopens Key Border Crossing, Ending 3-Week Blockade for Truckers

The reopening of the El Guerguerat border post is a joy for Moroccan and foreign international road transport (TIR) professionals. They had been stranded there for three weeks due to the actions of the Polisario militias.
"Thank you to His Majesty the King, Thank you to Morocco for reopening this road," Senegalese trucker Mamadou, who had been blocked in Morocco for three weeks after delivering his cargo of fish to Spain, told the MAP. He is happy to cross the 3.8 km of track separating the Moroccan and Mauritanian border posts. His compatriot Moussa also expresses words of thanks to the sovereign. "We thank Morocco for its intervention and hope that this will never happen again in the future," said this TIR professional who found himself stuck in Casablanca after delivering his goods.
On the truckers’ side, the joy is at its peak. "Long live His Majesty the King, glory to our valiant Royal Armed Forces," said Mbarek, a sexagenarian who is resuming his passion for driving to Nouakchott with a load of several tons of vegetables.
Last Friday, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) deployed a security cordon in the buffer zone to secure the flow of goods and people. This military operation was a success. On Saturday, road traffic between Morocco and Mauritania through the El Guerguerat border post resumed.
