Morocco Reopens Israel Liaison Office, Denies Normalization Claims

The head of Moroccan diplomacy, Nasser Bourita clarified in a press statement the American recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara. He specified that it was not made in exchange for the normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel.
"Certain decisions that required the restoration of contact with Israel cannot be considered as normalization, especially since the relations have existed between the two parties for many years," the minister told Sputnik. He also recalled that the relations between the two countries dated back to 1994, specifying that Morocco had a liaison office with Israel until 2002. He also announced the upcoming reopening of this office.
For the Moroccan Foreign Minister, King Mohammed VI announced that Morocco’s position on the Palestinian cause remains unchanged. According to him, this historic American decision is the result of two years of discussions between the two countries.
Mr. Bourita also assured that this rapprochement would not influence Morocco’s position on the separation between Israel and Palestine.
