Morocco Reopens Cinemas After 14-Month COVID Closure, Capacity Limited to 50%

After more than 14 months of closure, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Moroccans will finally reconnect with the big screen. The announcement was made by the Moroccan Chamber of Cinemas, which nevertheless deplores not having been warned, in order to prepare a warm welcome for movie lovers.
This decision comes after "407 consecutive days" of closure, as specified in the letter from the Moroccan Chamber of Cinemas, addressed on May 14 to the Ministry of Culture. The occupancy rate is set at 50%, and movie fans are already filling social networks to find out about the available movie titles.
However, while this decision is welcomed by all, the effective opening date of these theaters is still unknown, as the government, which had announced on May 31 an imminent reopening from June 1, remains silent on this resumption and has still not taken any action in this direction, lament the professionals in the sector who would have liked to be notified a week before the announcement. [...] "There is a lot of work behind it. A cinema does not restart like that. And the government has not taken this into consideration," denounces, anonymously, one of them, concerned to prepare a warm welcome for their customers.
This involves the maintenance of the machines, the programming of the films, the cleaning of the rooms, the implementation of the anti-Covid health process imposed by the authorities, the recall of the staff. At this rate, the cinemas will probably be able to reopen from Saturday, June 5, provided that the professionals get to work day and night. Movie fans can already plan their weekend.
