Morocco Reopens Borders to Foreign Tourists, Boosting Tourism Industry Hopes

The government has acceded to some of the demands of tourism professionals by opening the borders to foreigners. A decision that brings a glimmer of hope to tourism operators who could no longer stand the chaos caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since Sunday, September 6, 2020, foreign nationals can return to Morocco by simply presenting a hotel reservation and a valid PCR test. In making this decision, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to respond favorably to the request made by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).
The National Confederation of Tourism (CNT) welcomes this decision. In a letter, the president of the CNT, Abdellatif Kabbaj, says he welcomes with "great satisfaction" this decision which, according to him, "crowns the efforts of the CNT, which has never ceased to demand a reopening of the borders, to promote the resumption of tourism activity, in an economic context under pressure from the health crisis," reports le360.
The CNT believes that this decision will save thousands of jobs. That’s why Abdellatif Kabbaj warmly thanked the CGEM and its president for the mediation that led to this decision that is reviving a sector in full decline. According to the statistics recorded at the end of June, tourist arrivals fell by 63%, and overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments by 59%.
The reopening of borders remains an opportunity for industry professionals to promote the Moroccan destination through better services than those provided before the Covid-19 pandemic. And since tourism brings significant added value to the Moroccan economy’s influence, all eyes are on the sector’s revenues, which should improve, the same source specifies.
