Morocco Reopens Airports for International Flights, Boosts Tourism Hopes

As part of the resumption of flights to and from Morocco starting June 15, the airports of the kingdom are sounding the mobilization of human and material resources to welcome passengers, in strict compliance with health measures. This resumption, which coincides with the summer season, is an opportunity for tourism and many other sectors.

To ensure a quality resumption, the various Moroccan airports are already mobilizing. Thus, "several meetings have been held with the various stakeholders, including immigration services, customs, border health control, airlines and also the Handlers who are responsible for handling (baggage at check-in, delivery and hold baggage processing)," said Abdelhak Mazour, director of Casablanca Mohammed V Airport, during a visit by a MAP team.

At Casablanca Mohammed V Airport, among other things, the installation of plexiglass plates in fixed locations, for compliance with social distancing, awareness-raising of passengers through sound broadcasts, the installation of hand sanitizer dispensers at several points, the installation of information panels and many other provisions, indicates La Map, adding that this long-awaited resumption will allow MREs to join their families and will also be an opportunity for several sectors including tourism to make up for the losses accumulated over several months.

On the airline side, they are not sleeping either. Particular attention is paid to the Moroccan diaspora, through the improvement of the flight program on the five main countries of residence of the MREs, namely France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and the United Kingdom. RAM plans 315 weekly frequencies linking Morocco and these countries. Other companies following the same logic are also making great efforts for the success of this resumption. Air Arabia for example, plans to ensure the air links Casablanca-Geneva, Nador-Eindhoven and Oujda-Murcia with two flights per week. In addition, new routes from Marrakech to Barcelona, Fez to Marseille and Malaga, Oujda to Marseille, Toulouse and Paris, and Tangier to Bilbao and Valencia, are planned. Although the preparations are in full swing, vigilance must be present to avoid any surprise.
