Morocco Reopens Air Borders: Ticket Prices Soar for Diaspora Travelers

The Moroccan community in Majorca will be able to fly back to Morocco from February 7, the date announced by the authorities to reopen the air borders. But ticket prices are excessively high. An increase ranging from single to double.
Tickets to Morocco from Palma de Majorca cost more than usual. Prices have doubled at the only Moroccan travel agency present on the island. "If the price was around 90 euros at this time last year, it has more than doubled currently," explains Jamal El Messaoudi, the agency’s manager.

Since the announcement of the reopening, the agency has received many inquiries about the new health measures required in Morocco. It also records complaints related to the continued suspension of maritime links, says Jamal, noting that about 40% of Moroccans in Majorca travel to Morocco by boat. "Since the closure of the maritime routes, they go to France by car, and from there they take a boat. This situation has really affected us," he laments.

Jama El Messaoudi expects a summer with many bookings from families who have not been able to travel in recent months. The airline Air Arabia operates a single weekly flight from Son Sant Joan in the low season.
