Morocco Rejects Bill for Menstrual Leave in Public Sector

The bill aimed at establishing a menstrual leave, not exceeding two days per month, in favor of women civil servants, did not receive the government’s approval.
The government rejected the bill from the Justice and Social group in the House of Councillors (a dissident group from the Party of Justice and Development) focused on amending Article 15 of Dahir No. 1-58-008, dated 4 Chaâbane 1377, corresponding to February 24, 1958, and establishing the general statute of the civil service. The parliamentary group says it is open to suggestions from Aziz Akhannouch’s team to improve the text or to propose any other initiative that would improve the working conditions of women.
This bill aims to grant leave, not exceeding two days per month, to women civil servants during their monthly menstrual period without presenting a medical certificate. "The health status of working women during their periods represents a challenge, and the difficulties encountered during this period constitute an obstacle to professional equality and the promotion of women within the Administration," defended the Justice and Social parliamentary group.
