Morocco Reinstates Nightly Curfew as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Moroccans must be more patient in the face of the series of measures the government intends to take to fight the spread of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Thus, from July 23, from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., travel is prohibited, except in case of extreme emergency and necessity.
These new measures, which prohibit nighttime travel throughout the Kingdom from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., with the exception of people working in vital and essential sectors and those representing urgent medical cases, were taken on the recommendation of the Technical and Scientific Committee given the worrying increase in the number of infections and deaths recorded in recent days, indicates a statement from the government on Monday.
The aim is, it is said, to preserve the health of citizens. Travel between prefectures and provinces is conditional on the presentation of the vaccination passport or an administrative travel authorization issued by the competent territorial authorities. Wedding celebrations and festivities are prohibited. Funerals must not bring together more than 10 people.
The government also calls on cafes and restaurants, public transport and public swimming pools to a maximum of 50% of their capacity. Gatherings and activities in open spaces must not exceed 50 people, with the obligation to have an authorization issued by the local authorities in case of exceeding this number, adds the press release.
Faced with the recurrent appearance of new variants in the Kingdom, the government notes that the situation requires strict compliance with all the prevention measures adopted, as well as the barrier gestures, including physical distancing, hygiene rules and the mandatory wearing of masks. It is a matter of public health.
