Morocco Reignites Time Change Debate as Daylight Saving Shift Looms

Morocco will switch back to the legal time GMT+1 starting next Sunday, May 8, as announced by the government. But the debate on the permanent change of time has resumed with full force.
This measure is implemented in application of the decree relating to legal time, and the order of the Head of Government also relating to legal time.
However, several voices have been raised in favor of the cancellation of the GMT+1 schedule since the decision to make it the official schedule in the Kingdom throughout the year (except during Ramadan).
In a request addressed to the government, FGD deputy Fatima Tamni called for the abolition of GMT+1 as it would have a negative impact on the health of Moroccans, arguing that many studies and surveys have shown a close link between summer time and disturbances among Moroccans.
The biological clock regulates waking and sleeping hours, and any disruption of this balance would have a negative impact on mood and quality of life, she explained.
