Morocco Refutes Claims of Medicine Export Ban to African Countries

The Ministry of Health has provided a denial of allegations claiming the ban on exporting medicines to African countries.
In a press release published on its website, the ministry denounced the untruths of this publication. They are damaging to the image of Morocco and its health system, particularly in these difficult circumstances marked by the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the ministry, sufficient health checks are carried out on exports of medicines and medical equipment, in order to avoid exporting any basic medicine, the reserve stock of which is not in compliance with the laws in force. This control is carried out on a weekly basis by the National Observatory of Medicines and Health Products, under the Directorate of Medicines and Pharmacy. In addition, proactive intervention is carried out in case of a problem.
The ministry also recalls having made efforts for the chloroquine-based drug, used to treat patients with Covid-19, noting that the ministry, in coordination with the producing pharmaceutical institution, has made the entire stock of this drug available to its services.
It has also digitized the administrative procedures and formalities for applying for medicine export licenses, through the electronic portal of the directorate, without the user being required to travel to Rabat. This is to simplify this strategic process, updated in agreement with the Council of the Order of Pharmacist Manufacturers and Distributors.
Furthermore, the ministry states that cooperation is maintained between all the players in the health sector in Morocco to study proposals, implement the necessary measures and prepare for a new stage in the context of protecting the health of citizens.
