Morocco’s Ready-to-Wear Retailers Await Reopening Approval Amid Lockdown Easing

A few days before the end of confinement, ready-to-wear stores regret being forgotten by the local authorities. They are eagerly awaiting the green light from the Moroccan authorities to resume their activities.
According to one of the players in the sector, no reopening date or testing requirement has been mentioned yet, while this sector says it has been ready for a week. Moreover, the measures taken by the stores are much more effective than the measures recommended by the State at the administrative level.
Pending government authorization, the chains of stores had previously modeled their measures on international standards. We can mention the limitation of the number of people present in the store, the distancing of 10 meters for all customers, the obligation to wear a mask, and the distribution of disinfectant gels.
As for the possibility of online sales and home delivery, Hespress explains that the revenue from these sales remains derisory for the sector given its turnover on retail sales.
However, this sector had not anticipated the impact of the coronavirus epidemic on clothing sales in Morocco. According to the same media, the confinement period was an opportunity for some brands to experiment with online sales via WhatsApp and Facebook. Unfortunately, the marginal turnover that these sales represented was less than 1%. An insignificant result. To remedy this, most of the brands are already working to equip themselves with a website in order to no longer depend on retail sales.
