Morocco Ranks Third in European Wheat Imports, Importing 2.5 Million Tons

With more than 2.5 million tons of European wheat imported during the 2019-2020 campaign, Morocco is the third largest destination by volume. This is indicated by data from the European Commission.
Algeria imported 5.7 million tons, an increase of 9.9% year-on-year. The country is the largest destination by volume of European wheat. As for exports, France is the largest exporter of wheat to non-EU destinations with 12.9 million tons, followed by Romania (5.2 million tons), Germany (4.6 million tons), Poland (3.3 million tons), Lithuania (2.3 million tons) and Bulgaria (2.2 million tons).
Durum wheat exports reached 978,104 tons, an increase of 40% year-on-year, while imports jumped 72% to reach 2.2 million tons, according to AgriCensus. The European Union exported durum wheat mainly to Tunisia (383,466 tons) and Turkey (208,579 tons). Conversely, the EU imported 1.1 million tons from Canada and 778,039 tons from the United States.
