Morocco Ranks Second in Top Holiday Destinations for Belgian Travelers

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Morocco remains one of the favorite destinations of Belgian nationals for their holidays.
According to a press release from Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA), Morocco is in second place in the ranking of destinations behind Spain. It is followed by France, Italy and Portugal.
Air traffic saw its growth slow down last year. With a total of 2.58 million passengers welcomed at Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA), passenger traffic there fell by 69% compared to 2019, which was a record year, the company said.
During the summer months of July and August, passenger traffic at Charleroi airport reached 35% compared to 2019. During the second Covid-19 wave, the situation did not improve. The number of travelers fell to reach 15% during the month of November.
A slight progress was observed during the Christmas holidays in December. In total, 124,559 passengers were welcomed at Charleroi airport, or 20% of the 2019 volume.
The year that had started quite well for the Charleroi airport infrastructure was "disrupted by the unprecedented health crisis, imposing immense challenges on the aviation sector and drastically reducing our activity," comments Philippe Verdonck, CEO of BSCA.
