According to the ranking of a specialized platform focused on the quality of road infrastructure, Morocco is among the 20 countries with the best roads in the world.
Morocco ranks 16th in the ranking of the 20 countries with the best roads in the world, compiled by the financial platform Insider Monkey. The kingdom owes this position to the average speed score, a metric encompassing factors such as accessibility, surface condition and traffic fluidity. Moroccan roads have an average speed of 95 kilometers per hour, which underscores the unwavering determination of the country to improve its infrastructure, according to the IMF’s Road Quality and Mean Speed Score report published in May 2022.
The top 5 countries with the best roads in the world are the United States, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Canada and France. Each of these countries has average speed scores above 100 kilometers per hour. Proof that they have advanced and well-maintained infrastructure. In addition to Morocco, two other African countries are also in the top 20. These are Namibia and South Africa.
The absence of other African countries in this ranking proves that a challenge faces the continent, that of bridging the infrastructure deficit. A concern raised by King Mohammed VI at the 4th edition of the Africa Investment Forum held in Marrakech on November 8. "The infrastructure deficit on the continent is one of the main factors preventing Africa from fully realizing its economic growth potential and achieving its development goals," the sovereign stressed.
To compile its ranking, the financial platform Insider Monkey used data from the IMF’s Road Quality and Mean Speed Score report published in May 2022.
