Morocco Ranks 16th Globally for Road Quality, Outpacing Italy and Sweden

Morocco confirms its excellence by remaining in the Top 20 of the best roads in the world and outperforming countries like Italy, Serbia, Iran and Sweden.

Morocco takes 16th place in the ranking of the 20 countries with the best roads in the world, compiled by the financial platform Insider Monkey, ahead of Italy, Serbia, Iran and Sweden. The kingdom owes this position to the average speed score, a metric encompassing factors such as accessibility, surface condition and traffic fluidity. Moroccan roads have an average speed of 95 kilometers per hour, which underscores the country’s unwavering determination to improve its infrastructure, according to the IMF’s Road Quality and Mean Speed Score report.

The United States tops the ranking, with an average speed between major American cities of 107 kilometers per hour. The states of Oklahoma, North Dakota, Tennessee and Wyoming in particular have good quality roads. Saudi Arabia, for its part, is positioned in 3rd place with an average speed of 106 kilometers per hour. The report notes that "the Saudi government continues to devote significant sums of money to improving road infrastructure." Canada takes 4th place. The Sultanate of Oman occupies the 7th place in the top 20, thus becoming the third Arab country to appear in this ranking.

Existing road networks are vital for overall development, due to the mobility opportunities they offer, the IMF’s Quality and Mean Speed Score report points out. And to add:
"The United Nations recognizes the importance of connecting roads, having included an indicator in this area in its Sustainable Development Goals to monitor the development of countries’ infrastructure."

To compile its ranking, the financial platform Insider Monkey took into account the data from the IMF’s Road Quality and Mean Speed Score report.
