Morocco Ramps Up Mask Production to 6 Million Daily as Demand Surges

The week that is coming to an end has been marked by a series of concerns raised by the media about a shortage of protective masks in Morocco. The Minister of Industry and Trade, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, dispelled the concerns about the issue during his appearance on the 2M television news on Wednesday evening.
The minister was reassuring about Morocco’s ability to meet the demand for protective masks, which is only increasing since the wearing of this protection tool has become mandatory. "At the moment, we have produced 81.9 million masks that we have distributed to the various sales outlets," he specified, before adding that "Morocco is currently producing 6 million masks per day". Production is ensured by "17 factories" that are working tirelessly. For him, it is normal that "the distribution process is experiencing shortcomings, especially at the logistics level".
The minister also stressed that the country is making tremendous efforts in terms of mask production, and that even if the factories manage to exceed 8 million masks produced daily, "the need will always be felt". These are disposable masks after 3 or 4 hours of use. Thus, to solve this problem, Morocco has started the production of "another type of mask, washable and reusable for about a week".
In his intervention, the minister promised that there will be no more "distribution incidents to deplore", and that all the parties involved are getting involved so that quick solutions are found. "The health measures are very strict, and some sales outlets must continue to work to avoid any kind of shortage in supply," he said, before adding that a "control commission has been created. Its role is to ensure that all health measures are respected in all the still open businesses". Non-compliance with the measures will result in the definitive closure of the place in question, the same source specifies.
