Morocco to Raise Prices on Essential Goods, Prime Minister Announces

The prices of basic necessities such as butane gas, flour, sugar and oil will increase. At least this is what the head of government Saâdeddine El Othmani announced last weekend during a meeting that his party PJD organized in Kenitra.
"The government is now ready to raise the prices of basic necessities such as butane gas, flour, sugar and oil," said Prime Minister Saâdeddine El Othmani during a political meeting in Kenitra.
Ahead of the implementation of this decision, he indicated that certain prerequisites are necessary. His team will have to ensure that this increase "will not have negative repercussions on the citizen", reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
According to the head of government, this decision is justified by the fact that the state budget can no longer be used to subsidize certain basic necessities, to which it has devoted 14 billion dirhams this year.
