Morocco to Raise Minimum Wage: Government Set to Approve Increase

The government will meet on Thursday in a council during which seven draft decrees will be examined, including the one relating to the setting of the amount of the legal minimum wage in industry, commerce, the liberal professions and agriculture.
The executive will start its work with this draft law, a press release from the Prime Minister’s department specifies, stressing that this wage increase was agreed during the social dialogue on April 30 and will be applied from September. The objective is to enable employees to meet their needs regardless of their salary, it is added.
According to the schedule established during the social dialogue, the government has committed to increasing the SMIG (minimum wage) from September 1st. The agreement that led to a planning for the 2022-2024 period, includes a set of mutual obligations, including the increase in the legal minimum wage in industry, commerce, the liberal professions and agriculture.
More specifically, the SMIG would increase in the public sector to 3,500 net DH per month with the elimination of scale 7 for civil servants belonging to the technical and administrative assistant bodies. However, there will be an increase in the promotion rate in the grade from 33% to 36%. For the private sector, a 10% increase in the SMIG, in two stages: 5% in September 2022 and 5% in September 2023.
