Morocco to Raise Household Gas Prices in April, Government Announces

In Morocco, the increase in the price of the butane gas bottle is about to be enacted. The head of government Aziz Akhannouch recently made an announcement to this effect in Parliament.
The increase in the price of the butane gas bottle is becoming more concrete. According to the total decompensation strategy unveiled by the head of government in Parliament, the real price of the gas bottle used in households is equivalent to 120 DH: the consumer pays 40 DH and the state coffers bear 80 DH. But from April 2024, the price will rise to 50 DH, an increase of 10 DH for the consumer, and this will gradually increase, Aziz Akhannouch had specified. These measures are recorded in the 2024 finance law. They "coincide with the introduction of the direct aid project for underprivileged citizens, as well as the generalization of health coverage, with a view to creating better social equity," we are informed.
According to sources within the Professional Association of Wholesale Distributors of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), consulted by Hespress, the application of the price increase would not be effective in April, as the professionals in the sector have not yet received any official information from the government on this subject. They believe that the government of Aziz Akhannouch could decide to apply the new gas bottle prices after the end of the month of Ramadan in order to "preserve the purchasing power" of consumers. The same sources base their reasoning on the fact that the price scale determined by the authorities each month has not been changed for the coming month.
