Morocco to Raise Cooking Gas Prices Annually Through 2026

As decided by the government, the price of the gas cylinder will increase from next year. This should continue in the following years.
In detail, from next April, there is a planned increase of 10 dirhams for the 12-kilogram gas cylinder, which should be around 52 dirhams. It will be increased by 10 dirhams the following year and another 10 in 2026. That year, the gas cylinder will be sold for around 72 dirhams.
This tariff revision is part of the reform of the Moroccan compensation fund and the introduction of a targeted direct social assistance system, as confirmed by the Wali of Bank Al-Maghrib, Abdellatif Jouahri, after a meeting of the central bank’s council.
Abdellatif Jouahri also stated that, despite these increases, inflation should continue to follow a downward trajectory, stabilizing around 2.4% in 2024 and 2025. This downward trend comes after a significant peak in inflation, which had reached 10.1% in February of the previous year. In addition, Bank al-Maghrib forecasts a variation in fuel and volatile food prices, with expected decreases and increases over the next two years.
For fuels, the forecasts indicate a 2.4% decrease for the current year, followed by a 5.3% increase in 2024 and a 0.6% decrease in 2025. Volatile food products will experience an average increase of 19.1% this year, before falling to 0.7% in 2024 and stabilizing in 2025.
