Morocco Pushes for Rapid Implementation of Mandatory Health Insurance for Self-Employed

Compulsory health insurance (AMO) for the self-employed is slow to take shape, much to the chagrin of the Moroccan government, which is determined to change its approach.
One of the sticking points in these negotiations between the representatives of the self-employed and the relevant ministerial departments is the declaration of income, essential to determine the contribution base for social coverage, reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc. It should be specified that this fiscal contribution will have to finance the projects of the AMO and the generalized social coverage.
The government, which is accused of conducting non-inclusive negotiations, has an imperative: it is required to achieve the generalization of the AMO within the next two years, indicates the daily.
According to the newspaper, the government plans to open a social dialogue with all partners, in order to complete the development of a comprehensive pragmatic vision (planning, legal framework and financing option). This reform will take place over a 5-year period, in two phases, according to a well-defined schedule.
