Morocco’s Prime Minister Denies Gas Price Hike Rumors, Affirms Subsidy Continuation

Following publications that have circulated on social networks about an upcoming increase in the prices of gas bottles, Saad Eddine El Othmani reacted in a tweet published on October 22 in which the Head of Government states that "the information is false and has no basis".
Saad Eddine El Othmani specifies that the 2020 Finance Bill (PLF) "contains a sufficient budget to continue subsidizing gas bottles, whether small or large".
During a press conference dedicated to the 2020 PLF, held on October 22, Mohamed Benchaaboun, Minister of Economy, Finance and Public Administration Reform, had already tried to reassure about the price of bottles: "Throughout the year 2020, the gas bottle will be 40 dirhams and it will not move," he had declared.
In a Report on Compensation, accompanying the 2020 PLF, the Finance Department explains that pending the operationalization of the Unique Social Registry (RSU), scheduled for 2021, the Government will continue its subsidies for butane gas, sugar and flour.
