Morocco Prepares for Summer Influx of 3 Million Expatriates

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics is working to successfully organize Operation Marhaba 2024. Nearly three million Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) are expected in Morocco this summer.
A fleet plan has been established to ensure the transit of Moroccans from Europe to Morocco, under good conditions and in complete safety. It provides for the participation of 29 ships capable of transporting 487,000 passengers and 130,000 vehicles per week on 11 maritime lines. Meetings have been held with the heads of the shipping companies involved in the Operation to ensure the compliance of the ships with national and international standards in terms of maritime safety and security.
In collaboration with its Spanish counterpart, the Moroccan Ministry of Transport plans to renew this year the requirement for travelers to buy their tickets in advance in order to avoid traffic jams and possible price increases. All arrangements have been made to offer better travel conditions to MREs and improve the quality of on-board services (cleanliness, catering, communication and care for people with reduced mobility), the Ministry of Transition and Logistics has assured.
The boats of the shipping companies involved in this year’s Transit Operation will serve the Tanger Med-Algeciras, Tanger Ville-Tarifa, Nador-Almería, Al Hoceima-Motril, Tanger Med-Motril, Tanger Med-Marseille, Nador-Sète, Nador-Barcelona, Tanger Med-Barcelona-Sète, Tanger Med-Barcelona-Genoa, Tanger Med-Barcelona-Civitavecchia lines. Operation Marhaba takes place every year from June 15 to September 15. It allows Moroccans in Europe to join the kingdom via the Spanish, French and Italian ports to spend their summer holidays.
