Morocco Prepares for Early Influx of Expatriates Ahead of Eid al-Adha

Morocco is finalizing the details for the reception of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) as part of the Marhaba 2024 Operation. This year, the preparations have started earlier than usual, due to the celebration of Eid al-Adha.

Moroccan airports and ports, especially those in Tangier, Nador and Al Hoceima in the north of the kingdom, are bustling with activity to ensure the success of the Marhaba Operation. For this 24th edition, the preparations started on June 5 in order to welcome the many MREs who will start arriving from June 13.

"All the parties involved in the organization are obliged to prepare in a special and exceptional way, because it is the first time that this operation is starting at the same time as Eid al-Adha," said the head of the medical and humanitarian pole at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, assuring that the organization has taken all the necessary precautions to cope with the influx of MREs and "so that this peak period goes smoothly."

"The foundation has mobilized more than 1,400 experienced executives, including social workers, as well as medical and paramedical teams" to carry out the Transit Operation, added the official, hailing the good coordination between Morocco and Spain. "We are now working under favorable and adequate conditions."

He reassured that all arrangements are in place for the smooth running of the Marhaba Operation, from beginning to end. "We are trying, whether at the level of Moroccan ports or airports, to redouble our efforts to avoid making mistakes that could be somewhat costly, and the preparations are continuing at all levels: medical, logistical and even human resources." The Marhaba Operation takes place each year from June 15 to September 15. It allows Moroccans of the world to reach Morocco via the Spanish, Italian and French ports to spend their summer vacation.
