Morocco’s Ports Receive $110 Million Resilience Boost from French Development Agency

The French Development Agency (AFD has just granted a loan of over 1 billion DH to the National Ports Agency (ANP). The aim is to strengthen their resilience.
A loan agreement of 1.1 billion DH associated with a technical assistance grant of 8.7 million DH. This is the total amount made available to the National Ports Agency. This amount will allow the agency to strengthen the resilience of the ports it manages. Indeed, this agreement comes to consolidate the cooperation relations between the ANP and the AFD, and to improve the competitiveness of the ports managed by the ANP, and to enable them to cope with climate change and strengthen their urban integration.
This financial and technical partnership between the ANP and the AFD, initiated since 2012 with the granting of a loan of 50 million euros and a technical grant of 300,000 million euros, has just reached an important new stage marked by the granting of this new envelope. As a result, this substantial contribution granted to the National Ports Agency (ANP) aims to undertake major projects and strengthen the competitiveness of the ports of the kingdom. This partnership therefore has several areas of attraction. It also focuses on promoting more climate-resilient ports, in particular through the strengthening of structures and the protection of port infrastructure against rising sea levels. It also aims to set up a carbon footprint system, to improve energy efficiency and prevent marine pollution, to preserve the biodiversity of the aquatic environment.
In this context, the partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD) is a commendable initiative. Morocco and France are both nations whose expertise in the field of the sea is no longer to be demonstrated. For this reason, these two countries have understood that they must cooperate in the port and maritime sector, to strengthen commercial anchoring and promote sustainable development.
