AI in the Moroccan police. During the open house days of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) organized in Agadir under the slogan "National Security: Citizenship, Responsibility and Solidarity", at the same time as the commemoration of the 68th anniversary of the creation of national security, the head of the Division of Technological Watch and Methodologies at the DGSN, Brigadier General Younes Karbaid, discussed the use of artificial intelligence in the police. He stated that the DGSN is following the rapid developments in artificial intelligence technology, using a set of technical tools that improve police and security work in many areas.
According to the official, the DGSN has adopted a smart application that allows the instant reading of vehicle license plates, in order to compare them with the database of stolen and suspicious vehicles. This system, generalized in many cities, greatly helps to find stolen cars and wanted persons, he assured, adding that DGSN experts are constantly working to develop these systems and equip them with additional capabilities and functionalities, including the technology for recognizing falsified plates through the recognition of the type and category of the vehicle.
Karbaid also said that the DGSN has set up an artificial intelligence system allowing traffic analysis by comprehensively monitoring the number of vehicles in motion of all types, thus providing useful information for making decisions regarding traffic. The use of artificial intelligence in certain tasks is very effective, as it performs repetitive tasks with very high efficiency, while allowing security agents to devote themselves to various tasks requiring human intervention, he continued.
