Morocco Poised to Overtake Spain as UK's Top Fresh Produce Supplier

Morocco is about to outperform Spain to become the largest supplier of fresh produce to the United Kingdom. This is at least what Robert Kimbell, president of the new party called The Time party, claims.

The United Kingdom currently buys around 6% of global exports from Morocco, wrote Robert Kimbell on his Twitter account. According to him, this rate could be higher in the coming months. "The possibilities of exponentially increasing this proportion are huge," he said. To support his argument, he talks about the launch of the Tangier-Poole ferry project this year. A major project for the two countries. "Morocco’s appeal as a British source of high-quality olive oil, superb fresh fruits and top-quality vegetables is becoming unmatched," the politician stressed.

The president of the Time party’s projections on Moroccan exports are confirmed by data published by HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs). Total Moroccan product exports increased from 20,236 tonnes in January 2020 to 30,648 tonnes in January 2021, an increase of 51%. For Robert Kimbell, it is "only a matter of time before Morocco outperforms Spain and the Netherlands" as the UK’s trading partner. Moroccan exports of fresh produce have already surpassed those of the Netherlands in January. The UK imported 34,513 tonnes of products from the Netherlands and 20,236 tonnes from Morocco in January 2020. During the same period in 2021, the country of Boris Johnson imported 25,495 tonnes of Dutch fresh produce and 30,648 tonnes of Moroccan products.
