Morocco Overtakes Spain as Top Black Olive Exporter to US Market

Morocco increased its black olive exports to the United States by 110% from January to July 2021, far exceeding those of Spain, which fell by 6% over the same period compared to 2020.
According to sources from the US Customs Office, the volume of black olive exports from Spain to the United States stood at 5,921 tons at the end of July 2021, compared to 6,990 tons in 2020. During the same period, Morocco exported 6,418 tons of black olives to the United States, an increase of 110% compared to 2020. With this rate, Morocco far surpasses Spain in terms of the volume of black olive exports to the United States, reports Agronews.

The cumulative decline in black olive exports to the United States is 69%, or 19,000 tons during the period and is estimated at nearly 32,000 tons on an annual basis. The figures are more encouraging for green olives, whose exports increased by 9.3% during the period, reaching 24,765 tons, an increase of 2% compared to 2018.
The balance of Spanish table olive exports to the United States, for its part, increased by +1.28% during the period, also assured the Spanish Association of Exporters and the Table Olive Industry (ASEMESA).
