Morocco Plans Safe Reopening of Tourism Sector as Lockdown Eases

The Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Otmani, insists on the need to resume tourism activities after the lifting of the health confinement, provided that this operation takes place in safety, with the participation of all the stakeholders concerned.
According to him, the government is committed to the safe resumption of tourism activities, which have been severely affected by the health crisis related to Covid-19. Since "we will not accept any random measures that will lead us back", Saâdeddine El Otmani stressed during a working meeting attended by the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport and Social Economy, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, and representatives of the National Confederation of Tourism and several professional bodies in the sector.
"We are aware of the place of tourism in the national economy, as a major contributor to its development, representing about 7% of the gross domestic product, with more than half a million employees," he said.
In their speeches, the operators and professionals in the sector made proposals for the resumption of tourism activity at the national and international levels.
