Morocco Plans Ride-Hailing App to Boost Tourism Sector

To revive the tourism sector already hit by the health crisis in Morocco, the National Federation of Tourist Transport in Morocco wants to experiment with an application dedicated to tourist transport (VTC-Vehicles for Hire with Driver). This project targets both resident and non-resident tourists.

According to a report from the federation on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on this sector, the realization of this ambitious project will modernize the tourist transport sector and raise the quality and competitiveness of the product offered to customers.

In addition to promoting this new project, the report presented several proposals aimed at mitigating the socio-economic impact of the pandemic on the tourist transport sector in the kingdom. It also called for the promotion of domestic tourism as an alternative likely to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

Furthermore, the Federation, which is part of the General Union of Enterprises and Professions (UGEP), has also pleaded for a 3-year tax exemption in order to allow the companies and professionals in this sector to regain their lost balance due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It also advocates the suspension of civil liability insurance for vehicles stopped due to the pandemic, while maintaining the conditional guarantees of certain insurance companies. The federation not only calls for a review of the rates applied to tourist transport, but also pleads for the allocation of a subsidy to the sector in order to allow it to maintain its balance and to grant professionals credits not exceeding 2% interest rate.
