Morocco Plans Highway Toll Hikes Ahead of Summer Travel Season

The National Highway Company (ADM) is considering increasing toll rates on several routes, particularly the axis connecting Casablanca to Rabat.
This increase will also affect long distances, we learn. This increase comes at a sensitive time, as summer and holidays approach. This will further increase financial pressure on families.
During a presentation to the infrastructure committee last February, in response to recommendations from the temporary exploratory mission on the National Highway Company (ADM), Nizar Baraka had stated that measures "are currently being studied as part of the new program contract with the National Highway Company of Morocco in order to control indebtedness". One of these measures is "examining the possibility of revising the toll rate as a means of achieving financial balance," the minister had specified.
He had explained that the economic model of highway investment is characterized by a long-term return on investment due to the high cost of investment compared to short and medium-term revenues. "The total investment in highway infrastructure in Morocco has reached 55 billion dirhams," of which 80% was financed by international institutions, while ADM contributed 20% of its capital, Baraka had further specified.
