Morocco’s Phosphate Exports Surge, Nearly Doubling to 47.6 Billion Dirhams

By the end of May, Moroccan exports of phosphates and derivatives have almost doubled, reaching 47.62 billion dirhams (MMDH) compared to 13.43 MMDH in the same period last year.
This trend is attributable to the 17.96 MMDH increase in sales of natural and chemical fertilizers due to the rise in international prices, according to the Foreign Exchange Office in its recent note on the monthly indicators of foreign trade.
In parallel, exports in the agricultural and agri-food sector recorded a 24% increase, reaching 40.25 MMDH at the end of May, following the simultaneous increase in food industry sales (+28.9%) and agriculture, forestry and hunting (+19.6%).
In total, Moroccan merchandise exports amounted to 176.4 MMDH at the end of May, compared to 125.3 MMDH a year earlier, an increase of 40.7%. This increase in sales concerns all the essential sectors such as phosphates and derivatives, the automotive industry, agriculture and agri-food.
