Morocco’s Phosphate Exports Surge 67.7%, Boosting Economy

At the end of last August, Moroccan phosphate and derivative exports increased sharply, reaching 7.89 billion dirhams (MMDH), an increase of 67.7% compared to a year earlier.
According to the Office des Changes, this trend is the result of the 23.49 MMDH increase in sales of natural and chemical fertilizers, due to the price effect which more than doubled, noting that exports, on the other hand, fell by 15.5%.
At the same time, automotive exports showed an increase of 29.3% at the end of the first eight months of the year, reaching 66.7 MMDH. These exports reach their highest level during the same period over the past five years, according to the same source.
Regarding the agricultural and agri-food sector, sales increased by 24.1% compared to the same period last year, reaching 55.83 MMDH and driven by the simultaneous increase in sales of the food industry (+27.7%) and agriculture, forestry and hunting (+19.8%).
For their part, textile and leather sales increased by 28.8%, mainly attributable to the increase in sales of ready-made garments (+31.2%), knitwear (+22.8%) and footwear (+30.3%).
