Morocco: Panic among content creators, Google AdSense payments blocked

This is an unprecedented situation for the thousands of Moroccans who live or supplement their income through the web. Praised for its ease of use and accessibility, the Google AdSense advertising network is the essential solution for a multitude of personal websites, blogs, and YouTube channels throughout the Kingdom. Usually, the schedule is immutable: earnings are automatically transferred between the 21st and 24th of each month. However, this deadline has now been exceeded and bank accounts remain desperately empty, without the slightest official notification to justify this delay.

Faced with this silence, speculation is rife on discussion forums and social networks. Two theories are clashing to explain this malfunction. Some of the beneficiaries point the finger at the national banking sector, fearing that new restrictions or stricter verification procedures on international transfers may be the source of the blockage of funds at the borders.

Conversely, other observers believe that the problem is coming directly from California. They mention the possibility of major technical updates to the American payment systems or an overload related to the closing of the annual financial year. A more targeted hypothesis also suggests a tightening of Google’s algorithms, which would be carrying out increased checks on the quality of traffic and views before validating the final payments, leaving an entire profession in uncertainty for the time being.
