Morocco Overtakes Spain as World’s Top Berry Producer

The Moroccan berry sector excels to the point of becoming the most competitive in the world due to the many opportunities and varieties of products it offers. Morocco is thus taking the lead in the global berry sector, which was previously occupied by Spain.
Morocco, where berry production is booming, has surpassed Spain due to the delay accumulated by the latter in terms of innovations and planting of new varieties, according to a Dutch company reported by AgriMaroc.
According to the specialized media, Morocco has intensified its berry production, taking advantage of favorable climatic conditions to diversify its crops. In addition to the variety of varieties, the quality-price ratio of Moroccan berries is excellent, notes the same source.
"Moroccan berries are beautiful, sweet, crunchy and juicy, and the quality-price ratio of Moroccan berries is excellent," it insists, also noting that Moroccan farmers are diversifying their cultivation techniques and means.
In terms of berry cultivation at the national level, the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region is in the lead with an area of 4,360 hectares dedicated to berries, including 2,400 hectares of strawberries, 1,200 hectares of blueberries, 700 hectares of raspberries, and the remaining 60 hectares devoted to other types of berries.
