Morocco Overtakes South Africa as Africa’s Top Automotive Producer

This time, it’s done! Morocco becomes the leader in the automotive production sector in Africa, surpassing South Africa, long considered the continent’s leading producer.
Morocco has managed to establish its supremacy in the automotive industry, at the African level, thanks to its policy of cost reduction, its investments in infrastructure, and the significant incentive measures granted to manufacturers, estimated Martyn Davies, the automotive sector manager at the Deloitte-Africa firm.
For Martyn Davies, several factors are behind this position of Morocco, in particular its proximity to the vast European market, which is not the case for South Africa which does not have the same export assets.
The manager also highlights the unstable political situation in South Africa as well as a low-growth regional market, which would deter investors.
By next year, Morocco plans to reach 100 billion in export turnover and should also exceed 600,000 vehicles produced on its territory (the two Renault plants and the PSA plant currently under construction in Kenitra).
